The purpose of antifouling
Antifouling systems are coating options intended to manage biological fouling on suitable submerged surfaces. Selection considers the vessel’s substrate, existing paint system and operating conditions. The same product should not be assumed suitable for every surface. Before application, the current coating, deposits requiring removal and working area are assessed so that the preparation and subsequent stages form an appropriate plan.
Preparation and compatibility
The existing surface is cleaned appropriately and preparation follows the requirements of the selected coating system. Compatibility with old paint, any primer needs and working conditions are assessed. Application and drying follow the product instructions. Vessel use, local exposure and ongoing maintenance inform the practical result, helping the owner plan suitable inspections and future care for the selected antifouling system.
Maintain care around actual use
After marine surface work, regular condition checks remain important. Salt deposits, sunlight, contact and cleaning habits can influence the result. Ask your dealer to explain the treated areas, appropriate care products and any conditions before returning the vessel to use. If new marks, wear or damage appear, reassessment is preferable to aggressive treatment and helps identify a suitable next step for that surface.
